Form

  • Cinematography/ camera- type of shot
  • Sound- diagetic/ non-diagetic (diagesis, only audience can hear non diagetic sound)
  • Mise en scene- Visual, setting colour, props lighting (light/dark depending on what time of day), characters
  • Editing- continuenty (makes sense within the timeline), time, transition (make movement easier and some of the different types are fade, dissolve and wipes)

Analysis of editing in the first scene of blade

At the beginning there is slow motion which helps to build up what is coming next. There was also another case where slow motion involved with the wallet. This helped make sure the audience had their attention on the wallet. The scene has a lot of quick straight cuts which help keeps the scene fast and to keep hold of the audiences attention. I also noticed that as the scene got more intense the cuts were getting more and more frequent.

Key words

  • Foreshadowing- to prepare the audience of what is about to come
  • Desaturated- to remove colour
  • Bleached out- to push light
